I just spent an inordinate amount of time creating a custom compile setting for Scrivener that will export documents 100% AO3-ready so I don’t have to add line breaks or spaces between sections or do anything at all it’s just done it’s JUST. DONE boom bam copy paste this is a game changer why didn’t I do this years ago omg omg oM G

also you bet your ass my Good Omens fic will have functional hyperlinked in-chapter footnotes because that is my kink

if you use scrivener and would like to wield this power, here is the compile format file on my gdocs.

Import that custom format into the compile menu and then use it to compile your documents to HTML.

tada, just open the HTML file in your browser and copy/paste that binch into AO3′s rich text editor! All character formatting (italics etc) should be preserved.

and here’s The Nice and Accurate Guide to Footnotes :)
