Plus Size Fashion (That Actually Fits!)

I’ve been plus size since I was about twelve-years-old. So, of all people, I understand that just because something says it’s available in your size, doesn’t mean it actually fits your size. I also know that a lot of people in the fashion communities I’m part of seem to believe that because they don’t suit the size of the models displaying the clothes they love so much, they can’t actually wear them. To me, that’s a terrible shame. I know how sad it is to want to participate and feel like you can’t because you’re unable to. So, today, I’m here to show you some plus size clothing brand that I personally have worn and can verify actually fits 

Kawaii Goods

This shop suits a variety of fashions fairy kei, pop kei, decora, and even some lolita or hime fashions, if you really tried. I’m sure there’s others I can’t think of, but onto the point. Kawaii Goods is run by a very lovely lady who designs all her own stuff. Her fabrics are stretchy and a bit like swimwear/dance knits. They’re really comfy and they fit even my curvy all over body.

Holley Tea Time

This store is extremely similar to Kawaii Goods, but with a whole new variety of prints. This is more exclusive to Pop and Fairy Kei styles as well as Pastel Goth/Creepy Cute. 

Plus Cutie

Like Japanese culture? Are you a total weeb? Then this is the clothing shop for you! I can genuinely say that just about every otaku-esque or Japanese street fashion probably has at least one piece here. It’s where I got my seifuku from! ^u^ 

Torrid

I love this store. This one isn’t “kawaii” or related to j-fashion, but it is very modern and has stuff for genuinely plus sized people. I’ve gotten a peignoir from there, some nice shoes, and even a good bra. This probably has something your size or style. Shoes, clothes, accessories, you name it! They’re a bit on the pricey side but I assure you anything from this store will last you a long, long time. 

Lane Bryant

Admittedly I predominantly shop here for undergarments and accessories. They have a few nice clothes that, indeed, fit those of us in the larger size ranges. Most of their style is mildly business casual. Check them out though, they’re great quality!

Magical Circle Clothing

For weebs and pastel goths alike. Accessories? Yeah. More importantly? Really nice quality clothing for bigger people! I love lots of their styles and I plan on at one point going out on a huge haul with them. 

Dani Lamb Designs

Be-still my tender, pastel-loving heart. This shop is so alarmingly cute. Lots of nice, soft colors and really good designs. I feel like this is a must-see if you’re into lots of pastels.

The Kawaii Machine

So cute! Pastels, darks, lots of different styles. This store is so cute and all the products are to die for. I cannot recommend them enough. 

Coruscate Unique

This is for the plus sized lolita. Granted, not all of the items are plus sized. However, they do also have a plus sized line and a made-to-order selection. Super cute. Lots of frills! Love this shop.

From The Westminster Review, a political magazine, in 1907; an essay by Helen Fraser called Women’s Suffrage, on how if women got the vote, butch and ace women were gonna dominate the whole thing and screw it up for all the Real Ladies. Italics are theirs, emphasis in bold is mine: 

“Broadly speaking, no man is wholly a man, no woman wholly a woman, every individual has some elements of the other sex much or little developed in his or her nature. So that masculine and feminine, manly and womanly, are not absolute, but relative terms. This is common medical knowledge that has been known for hundreds of years, but only recently understood in its full significance.

“Men may be on this basis divided into three groups.

(1) The type that is characteristic of its sex, the manly or masculine man. 

(2) The type that is womanly, or feminine. 

(3) The type that is very little sexed, and looks on sexual things either with distaste or an unhealthy curiosity. 

“There are three corresponding types of women.

“In each case, it is the first type, the manly man, or the womanly woman, that is characteristic of its sex, and is socially of value. This is so not only for reproductive reasons, but because the fullest sexualised types lead a heathier life, and mentally are more original, healthy, and sane.

“The relation of culture to voting capacity presents equal difficulties for either sex. The womanly woman represents womanhood, but she is not self-assertive, is inclined to prefer a private home life to a public one, cares in a private but not in a public manner for political things, and is too fond of her children to desire to spend much of her time at public meetings.

“In all organizations, therefore, that women develop, if they are arranged on this public and masculine plan, the masculine woman, who likes publicity, who is either unmarried or if married often neglectful of her home, will tend to predominate, and she will in most cases be supported by the asexual woman. The control of the committee-room and the platform means also largely the control of propaganda and ideas generally. 

“A masculine ideal modified by non-sexual tendencies will, therefore, tend to be voiced and represented, and the womanly woman, by the passing of an unmodified woman’s franchise bill, will be increasingly controlled by the masculine woman to the nation’s permanent loss. 

“In the Colonies and the United States, where the franchise movement has gone farther than in Europe, there is much medical and non-medical evidence to support the belief that sex ideals are in a temporarily or permanently decadent condition. [Translation: the suffrage movement has gotten farther, women have more political power, and they are OVERRUN BY TEH QUEERZ OMFG!!ONE!!11!1eleven]

“Further, the whole object of the woman’s movement, which is to emancipate woman as woman, will be defeated. The predominance of masculine and asexual women will strengthen unhealthily the man’s influence and woman’s ideals will be lost…. Prostitution and moral depravity generally are in great part related to the masculine woman and the feminine man, and the same may be said of crime. These facts do not necessarily favour any reactionary spirit, but they strongly suggest that emancipation has not proceeded upon healthy lines, and prove that the healthy sex, friendliness of man and woman, has been in some unfortunate way disturbed.”

i just thought y’all would like yet another a tiny peek through history’s keyhole at how long straight people have known about aces, lumped them in with the rest of the community, and thought terrible things about how we were all going to bring civilization down. ENJOY

I hate how most people only know Luthien as this chaste, innocent, ethereally beautiful elf-woman who got everything done through her otherworldly beauty. I won’t deny that her beauty was one of her greatest assets. But in my opinion, this is not a case of a Mary Sue, because it actually makes sense. Luthien is the daughter of a powerful elf king and a Maia - basically Tolkien’s version of an angel. And not just any Maia, one of the most beautiful. It makes sense for her to be a genetic jackpot. She’s already an elf, far more beautiful than a human can be. 

But one of my favorite things about Luthien is that she basically told Sauron to sit the fuck down or she was going to send him crying back to daddy (Morgoth/Melkor).

“Lúthien came to him, and said that he should be stripped (of his body)… and his ghost be sent quaking back to Morgoth; and she said: “There everlastingly thy naked self shall endure the torment of his scorn, pierced by his eyes, unless thou yield to me the mastery of thy tower.“”

And guess what? Sauron yielded that tower and kept his tail between his legs for the rest of the First Age. 

This was not a move made because, “Oh my lord, she’s drop-dead gorgeous, I’ve been enchanted by her hotness”. This is a moment of, “This girl means business, I’d better listen to her if I don’t want my ass to be kicked any more”. 

And this was Sauron.

Luthien definitely isn’t your sword-wielding, armor-wearing, tomboyish deconstruction of classic feminism, but she was still a badass and she still knew how to frighten the hell out of people.
