Since DW doesn't have a reblog function, and yet people are saying important things that other people might want to hear, I'm going to do it like this: Everything I want to reblog, I'm going to put in a daily link post.

So. Here goes for the first one - I hope I can settle on a format if I manage to keep this up for more than a week.

I'm not 100% sure I've got the hang of how to retrieve saved drafts on here, so I'm going to post this now because I'm going out.

Ha! I like this, if I were organized I would absolutely set myself a blog schedule and do one of these a week, too.
I haven't found any draft functionality, and I'm definitely going to miss scheduling posts-- it's the only way I was able to ever be consistent-- but I think composing drafts in emails like an old-school blogger is the way to go, for me.
Oh you can post by email, though. Maybe I can schedule emails? That sounds too advanced, for me.

Oh, that's a good idea -- I hadn't even thought about scheduling in email. I bet this would be a cinch for someone with a bit more email savvy than us two.

I've actually been doing something this past week, originally for a totally different reason -- I just straight post whatever I was working on, but set to Private instead. Then when I finish fixing it or whatever, I c&p it into a new post and delete the private "draft".

Yes, private entries to copy and paste out of is really the best way, I think-- I used to do that on LJ back in the day, and it's a good way to make sure the formatting is all correct. That's my real hangup with the post by email thing-- I bet it would have just as much issue with correct formatting as all the Tumblr crossposts I've ever done.

I really wish I were more computer-programming-savvy-- last night I used the Everyone Is Doing It So Easy python script Tumblr exporter, and got such persistent errors I had to reluctantly rope in my long-suffering partner, who is by profession and 20 years' experience an actual software engineer with considerable Python experience, and somehow even though i'd only changed one variable I'd broken it so profoundly that he had to reset it and still wasn't able to get the functionality that all of the randos who'd reblogged the post with the script in it had managed to get.
It's not that I'm bad with computers, it's that I have a particularly challenged interface with reality that doesn't mesh well with programming languages in general.

Ugh. Someone very kindly commented on my Hux meta on Ao3 to walk me through setting up a Python exporter, and honestly my brain glazed over just reading it. It was very kind of them, but I really don't think it's going to happen :(

yeah nah. it's not obvious.
the only reason my dude even got involved was that i was like, well, i gotta copy this script from github and run it in my terminal and he was like WAIT A MINUTE THAT COULD DO LITERALLY ANYTHING and i was like yes, yes that's how this works, and he was like GIVE THAT HERE.

i think he thought i was going to just randomly run whatever i found on my hard drive without even like, verifying that other people had looked at it and determined that it was what it said it was.

I'm not going to lie - randomly running some stuff without knowing exactly what it will do is totally something I might actually do. Perhaps I'll get my IT guy to look at it too :)

Thanks! Yeah, I think that if you're typing a post, it autosaves. Then if you get blacked out or accidentally close the browser or something, the next time you go to make a post it asks you if you want to restore from draft. But I don't think there's a way to save more than one draft at once, or curate and organize them or whatever. It's better than nothing, though! I remember losing whole posts in LJ :)

I'm not sure how the email thing works, tbh, but yes, my next choice was going to be to save them all in a WP doc or something :)

oh but I have already learned, to my sorrow, to NEVER RESTORE FROM THE AUTOSAVE. It DOES NOT WORK. It doesn't matter what time it says it saved the file, it WILL restore either a blank file, or an entry you posted long ago. It is worse than useless, and DO NOT EVER rely on it for ANYTHING.

Oh no! It worked for me that one time, but if it's not reliable I'll stick with the posting as private routine instead :)

Hah, that porg rating girl has only one of the two I have. She rated mine 8/10... but I have another one that's bigger. She doesn't have every porg that exists :>

Oh no, I've been fascinated by the First Order's relationship with the dead ever since ashes-gate. What with them carrying the names of their dead heroes on their rank insignia, and Kylo keeping the ashes of his enemies, and Hux demanding his away team bring back the skulls of the Resistance members on Jakku... I know the movie's doing it just to hammer home that they're eeeevil!!OMG, but it just made me think these people have a religion! My God, there is veneration going on on these starships. These people have an actual culture. Now I want to know about FO funerary traditions, and whether they carry their mummified admirals in the belly of their ships. Whether Hux goes down there to talk to the remains of Rae Sloane, as Kylo does with Vader...

So no, you're not the only one. I just thought that I was :)
