One of the best ways to get people to care is to write a lot. Of course this is horribly counterintuitive, because it feels as though one should only produce a lot if one has an audience. But it’s actually the opposite in the fic world (at least so I’ve found). People like to read lots of things by the same author, and so engage more if there’s more material.
Not only will it help your mental health, but by writing and posting, it’ll also help the feeling that no one cares, because it will encourage people to engage with your work, since they know they can get more of the same.
As an aside, yes, kids, don’t do that.
