Yes, I found that information from Snoke fascinating, mostly that it was told directly to Kylo, so Kylo *knows* what primarily motivations Hux. All I can attribute Kylo’s post-ascension abuse to is that 1) he was pissed and letting out years of frustration with Hux, 2) he was threatened and wanted to put Hux ‘in his place’ which isn’t a good look, and 3) he remembered Snoke’s advice and thought that a show of power would keep Hux working for him just like Hux had worked for Snoke.
highfemmehux:
It genuinely does make the way Kylo treats Hux worse imo because he’s been fully aware that Hux is treated like shit by everyone but instead of trying to win Hux over by being the first to not treat him like shit, he just continues the proud tradition of Hux-As-First-Order-Punching-Bag
highfemmehux:
Kylo: why do we keep Hux around again?
Snoke: he was abused as a child and is filled with spite and shame and therefore easy to manipulate
Kylo: oh, Neat.
And it will do, of course, up until there’s a good opportunity for Hux to safely slit his throat. Maybe years and years hence, after Kylo has forgotten he’s a threat.
The comic certainly gives credence to the idea that the dreadnaught fracas was actually Hux seizing an opportunity to get rid of Canady in a way no one would suspect.
I approve of the afterword that reminds people to remember that Hux is dangerous. But yeah, it’s a shame that nobody in the FO seems to have tried the ‘well, let’s just not be dicks to him,’ tactic. Judging from how poleaxed he is at the thought that Ren had deliberately saved his life at the beginning of the comic, being nice to him might be surprisingly effective.
