honestly, as top-tier as The Good Place is, the jokes about chidi’s students hating him always fail to land. like… have you seen chidi? man looks like he just stepped off of Non-Threatening Hotties Monthly. dude cares about doing the right thing, is a big fighter for gender quality, and has a smile that could bring a dying cactus back to life. he never mocks someone for being ignorant and he’s always excited to get to tell them something new. and he’s ripped.

so like… bored??? fam, students would be fighting each other to get to his lectures early and get in the front row. sure, he’d be confused about why women keep showing up in full makeup and asking him if he has some time to meet for ‘kant and chill’, but he’d just be happy they’re enthusiastic. meanwhile his classes have whatsapp groups titled things like ‘phil me up daddy’ and ‘anagonYAY’. one time he takes his sweater vest off in class and accidentally pulls his shirt up a bit and people are still talking about it at the reunion ten years later

#plus as shaina and i decided months ago #he’d pretty much have to be a stellar teacher #to have tenure #considering his abysmal publication record (via @herowndeliverance)

Why would aro/ace people and gay/lesbian people fight when we have so much in common?

Not attracted to the “opposite” gender in one way or another

People that claim they could turn us straight with their magic genitals

Getting the idea that we’re going to get married, have sex and/or a romantic relationship with someone that we’re not attracted to, and have 2.5 kids drilled into our heads

“You don’t look lesbian/ace/gay/aro”

Not dressing to attract a mate of the “opposite” gender

Queerplatonic relationships and gay marriage both redefine traditional ideas of love and family

We all have super cool flags

ive been thinking and honest to god: i think i would actually join a girl gang if the offer came. like a legitimate, hierarchical, “let’s carry knives under our skirts and beat up men” gang. fuck college

bringing back the sukeban girl gangs from the 70’s that wore long skirts against teen sexualization and fucked things up for the patriarchy

and this was no “5 girls in a small town” who made the news—this was yakuza level shit. 20,000 girls getting into gang fights and shoplifting and getting pissed off that only men were allowed to be rough and violent and angry

and y’all wanna know the funniest part? immediately after this trend blew up, the Men decided to sexualize the hell out of these girls. this included movie adaptations and pornos where the skirts were made shorter and the tits were bigger cause apparently they had found their new fetish

but here’s how they actually looked, and it’s actually pretty badass:

so anyways. who up for a girl gang

This blogger remembers when we didn’t have AO3.

This blogger remembers when we had to put disclaimers at the head of our fics and pray that someone didn’t take it into their heads to sue us for what we created.

This blogger remembers brilliant artists and writers getting decades of work obliterated on LJ because someone who wanted to tell people what they were allowed to create went running to someone who wanted a profit, and told them the artists and writers had been naughty.

This blogger remembers just how hard the creators of AO3 worked to build the thing we all seem to take for granted now.

This blogger watched friends dive into the creation process so heartily and determinedly that they all but disappeared from the writing/gaming/artistic side of their fandom for YEARS while they worked to make the archive happen.

This blogger remembers the sense of giddy wonder that there would possibly be LAWYERS involved, willing to defend our right to create these works, and not leave us hanging at the mercy of corporate legal teams.

This blogger is aware that she reads between twenty to fifty books’ worth of material every year on AO3, and is never REQUIRED to pay a penny for the privilege of getting access.

This blogger is aware that she will not ever see advertisements on AO3, and that her personal data and reading preferences won’t be sold to advertisers in order to raise the money that AO3 needs to pay for the services they provide.

This blogger is aware that AO3 is, and has always been, a labor of love; by fans, for fans, and not for profiting off fans – and this is what makes it unique in the whole of the media universe.

This blogger has NEVER taken AO3 for granted, and has ALWAYS been damned glad to have access to it.  Even in years when this blogger didn’t have the means to support it financially.

All of the above, and:

This blogger remembers the Anne Rice fandom drama.

This blogger remembers Fanfiction.net deleting fanfics because they had been coerced into deleting the nc-17 category.

This blogger is thankful for AO3 and the people who run that website and put a lot of work into it.

(This blogger remembers Fanlib and remembers personal sites

This blogger was around during the disclaimer times (even has fanfics with them) and did research on fanfiction for two separate papers (one on how fanfiction and roleplaying has been found to help people to better not only their writing skills but also assist ESL students to become comfortable using English; one on how fanfiction is still heavily stigmatized and the legality of it as well as the fact that published authors both cannot indulge in their fandom’s fanfiction and also many look down upon it) for university

This blogger will always support AO3 until the day she dies, even when she becomes a published writer herself. Because AO3 is precious and protects us so I’m always willing to protect it)

Mental Crop Rotation

When farmers grow the same crop too many years in a row, it can leave their soil depleted of minerals and other nutrients that are vital to the health of their fields.

To avoid this, farmers will often alternate the crops that they grow because some plants will use up different minerals (such as nitrogen) while other plants replenish those minerals. This process is known as “crop rotation.”

So the next time you find that you need to step away from a project to work on something else for a while, don’t beat yourself up for “quitting” that project. Give yourself permission to practice “mental crop rotation” to maintain a healthy brain field.

Because I’ve found that when that unnecessary guilt and pressure are removed from the process, a good mental crop rotation can help you feel more energized and invigorated than ever once you’re ready to rotate back to that project.

: A crucial part of crop rotation is that the field is let fallow sometimes. You plant what’s called a “cover crop”, which is something you don’t expect to harvest– it’s there for its roots to hold the soil in place, and often it’ll be what’s called a nitrogen-fixer, i.e. a plant that can pull nitrogen out of the air and fix it into the soil with its roots (but sometimes it won’t, sometimes it’s really just there to shelter the soil surface), and then you’ll till in that cover crop, or let the frost kill it and the stalks lie as mulch, and then you’ll rotate productive crops back into that field the next season.

It’s important, though, to understand that during the fallow period, no nutrients are removed from that ground, and nothing is expected of it. Whatever the land grows then, it keeps, and it gets tilled back in or decomposes in place, to return its energy to the earth.

We’re not allowed, in our current society, to just let our minds be fallow for a bit, to produce nothing for export, to make nothing that can be sold. But it’s part of good land stewardship, to give every field time when it doesn’t need to give you anything back.

So yes, grow and produce different things from time to time, rotate them around your mind and exercise different mental muscles, take different things from your creative processes, yes– but also, give yourself a fallow spell now and again, and let the field of your mind grow things for itself to keep, to break down and save for later.

We live in a world where the entire market is controlled by only a few bloated megacorporations and if you’re making any sort of living at all then chances are you rely on at least one of them to keep you alive from day to day. A person who is promoting books from LGBTQ+ authors or books they wrote themselves through an Amazon service is not “working for Amazon.” That’s not what “Amazon affiliate” means. Amazon holds a near monopoly on book sales, especially digital books, so if you’re selling books then Amazon is probably the one who’s paying you for them. People act like Amazon affiliates on this website are personal acquaintances with Jeff Bezos himself and enjoy rides in his lap of luxury like get your heads out of your asses, please. They’re not even headed by a PR team like Twitter corporate accounts are, they’re just regular bloggers.

Yup. I’m an indie author, selling my books on Amazon (because it’s the biggest bookstore in the world and I’d be a fool not to.) And Amazon gives me a little bit of extra money if I use an Amazon Affiliate link to link people to my book page. That’s a little tiny bit of extra money - from my POV - for free. I get nothing else from being an Amazon Affiliate, and I’m not sure what Amazon gets out of it. But it is in no way the same as “working for Amazon.”

I’m working for myself, and Amazon is giving me a cent or two extra to use an affiliate link rather than a normal link. That is the full and total extent of it. Heinous, I’m sure.

So anyway, yeah. I sympathize.

i think that the notre dame cathedral was built by aliens. i mean, theres no way those folks could have built such an incredible structure like that, so if it wasnt built by aliens, it had to be helped by aliens.

yeah i mean were talking about a primitive civilization that just dumped their shit in the streets and people think that they built that all by themselves ??? no way they definitely had help, thinking it could have been from aliens isn’t that much of a stretch given how often their religious art shows strangely proportioned people coming from the sky to help them

These kind of structures would have taken decades to make with the level of technology and labor they had at the time. It’s pretty clear it that a more advanced species made them
