My Leia/Hux shipper heart is SO DAMN pleased. :DD You have no idea.
But also, on less silly note (I’ll make this canon one day you’ll see) I’m glad they realised they make Leia into just as terrible fanatic as their foes in a lot EU material - and that lack of ex-Imperials or their children on TR side until well into post-TLJ was disturbing! - and tried to change this.

It is frustrating that so much of the supplementary material (and, ya know, the first two movies of the ST) were all set up toward an obvious ending. And then we have these idiots JJ and CT talking about how they’d been written into a corner and had to struggle. The ending was OBVIOUS. All they had to do is write it!

Ugh! Yet another reason to hate Ben Solos death.
nite0wl29:
God now I hate this movie even more!!
tcookies:
Yup!
To add more context, at the end of Battlefront II’s Ressurection campaign, after Iden Versio’s death, Zay tries to return to D’Qar to see Leia but is denied landing by the Resistance because they are evacuating Crait (beginning of TLJ). Leia tasks Zay with going to the Outer Rim to gather more allies for the Resistance since their numbers are dwindling.
In the novel, Star Wars: Resistance Reborn (published November 2019), it follows the aftermath of The Last Jedi and the Resistance journeying around to rebuild their forces. Zay finds leads from Iden’s ex-Imperial days and Leia is hesitant to recruit these people but also understands that people, as Iden Versio and Del Meeko had proven, cannot be judged for their past mistakes.

maemaela Oooh, damn I haven’t read that book yet! I had no idea!
…okay now I’m even more confused by TROS.
maemaela:
It’s in the tie in novel, Resistance Reborn. They recruit a bunch of ex-Imperials. Including this one crazy lady who brutally murdered one of the other Resistance pilot’s dad, if I remember correctly?? There’s a big blow up when everybody gets together, but Poe diffuses it by saying that they’re all on the same team now bc they all hate the First Order and people can change and grow and try to atone for their mistakes.
That scene was why I was EXTRA pissed off when they killed off Ben Solo.
augustintodarkness:
Whaaaaaaaaaaa?
Source please, if there’s one

Friendly reminder that, after the Battle of Crait, a large chunk of the Resistance are made up of ex-Imperials 👀 People even Leia didn’t want to recruit and only did so because she knew there was no choice and needed every person. So if you think the Resistance would’ve given Ben a death penalty for being a war criminal… lmfao wow the hypocrisy…
