as much as i understand the appeal of well-loved, well-worn narratives & tropes to revisit again and again, i’m getting more and more weirded out by the insistence that “storytelling” is a somewhat exact science in which if (x) happens then (y) reaction must follow, and recipes must be followed without deviation in order to turn out ‘good’.
