Wait one moment.
So Hux says “I’m the spy,” and Poe says “I knew it!”
Why would Poe claim to know anything so unbelievable? Unless, maybe, after Starkiller, Hux had a change of heart and was already sabotaging the FO in TLJ?
That would certainly explain why a man described as a military mastermind allowed Poe to distract him with that inane telephone conversation long enough to let the Resistance get away, and why he didn’t do anything to protect Canady in the Dreadnaught.
Just how long has Hux been working for the Resistance?
Hahaha! I wondered that myself. Also, what happened to the Starkiller rescue scene? What happened to Hux’s tragic backstory? What happened to Hux having a few braincells? What happened to HUX? I mean, after the shooting?
He didn’t look very dead to me. We saw stormtrooper after stormtrooper get shot down with smoking holes in their chests. But Hux? Nah. He gets knocked back a ways, but no visible wound.
That was our GingerPilot moment right there.
It’s a damn shame Poe wasn’t all, “You’re coming with us, Hugs!” and dragged him into the Falcon.
But yeah, Hux has been thrown harder and farther with the Force by Kylo Ren. HIs vest protected him from the blaster would searing his chest cavity and it was just the force of the blow that knocked the wind out of him and knocked him out.
Also, I think this is the first time we’re seen Hux at High Command. Maybe his uniform without his arm bands was his High Command Uniform? Certainly there was still a faction in High Command that was following Hux.
Well we now know the reason why he wears a slightly too-large jacket. It’s to fit the body armour inside.
And yeah, of course he dropped and played dead until Pryde was gone, at which point he collected Mitaka and the rest of his personal staff and took a shuttle out of there.
(I didn’t notice sleeve stripes, but FO ranks, like the FO itself, was kind of irrelevant once the new Imperials came on the scene.)
It’s up to Hux and Co to save the galaxy now. With all the Force Users who meddled in the government gone (Palpatine, Leia, Ren) and Rey having no ambitions for governing at all - that leaves Hux with his…thirst for order. And the remaining First Order hardware and personeel to actually…dew it. All those Imperials? They’re Boomers. They fucked up in the first place. Hux and Co are Millenials and Gen Z subadults. They don’t want to go backwards.
I’m pretty sure it wasn’t J. J.’s intention to make me love the First Order, but I’ll be damned if he didn’t manage it with TROS.
Oh yes, I’ve never really liked the Empire. All of those old guys like Pryde had choices and actively chose to abandon democracy for fascism because there was something in it for them. My sympathy for Hux is largely based on the fact that he never asked to be born where he is, and he’s doing the best he can to survive given his circumstances. But what happened to the FO? I assumed they were also in the fleet which was destroyed off [whatever the planet was called. Not Korriban.]
