So I came across this yesterday on the internet (it was a comment on a forum and I don’t remember who posted it anymore- I’m sorry!)
So remember that opening scene on Mustafar with Kylo? Hux and Pryde were originally going to be a part of this scene with Hux saying ‘He’s gone mad.. ‘ (basically the quote from the Visual Dictionary)We know this scene was actually filmed bc Domhnall and Richard talk about it in an interview.
Now apparently the original script went like this afterwards: Pryde tells Hux that he needs to know about sth and while Kylo stays back on Mustafar, Pryde takes Hux to meet Palpatine. Revealing how Pryde knew about Palpatine from the beginning (which makes 100% sense considering their little skype convo in the movie). Hux beginns to loose his illusions about the FO (he always believed them to be superior to the empire), realizing that the FO was always just a means to achieve the goal of restoring the Empire. (Restore power to those officers that abused and ridiculed him most of his life.. and also restore yet another Force User in a place of absolute power, like Snoke, like Kylo). Palpatine apparently also showed them both a group of small children, meant to become a part of the Final Order army soon. Hux spots a young red-haired boy in the crowd- and apparently this is his turning point. That Domhnall played this with such expression (and no words)- that it becomes clear through this that he is done with this Final Order/First Order thing. Palpatine then tells them to leave. (while I’m not 100% convinced about everything here- it would explain how Hux knew about the Final Order and their fleet before the official meeting where Kylo tells the Supreme Council about it. If you think about it- how did he know about it before anyone else and had time to send word to the Resistance?!)
Back on the Steadfast Hux immediately informs Kylo and the KoR about who Pryde really is and about his intentions (He does not know at this point that Kylo himself has just been to Exegol). He tells him that him and the FO are just a means to an end to restore Palpatine and the empire. Kylo does not believe him, throws him against a wall using the Force and tells him not to be late for the Supreme Council meeting (the one with the spy’s head). (This scene could explain the deleted scene between Hux, Kylo and the KoR- there is a picture of this on the internet, from I believe Japanese promo).
Also apparently the escape scene from the Steadfast was supposed to be very different- Hux was not supposed to say his lines ‘I’m the spy.’ and ‘I don’t care if you win, I just need Kylo Ren to loose.’
Also originally it was Kylo that was supposed to kill Hux- impaling him with his lightsaber after a sharp talk exchange where Hux once again repeated that Pryde is a traitor to his cause.
Well.. what do you think?!? While I don’t think everything about this is necessarily true (I’m not sure how correct that Exegol scene is- it could be an early script idea that was never filmed?) I think this whole thing actually makes sense! We know the Mustafar scene existed, Hux talked alone with Kylo and the KoR at some point during a deleted scene and it would also explain how Hux knew about the new Sith fleet before anyone else did!! I read very early on in the leaks that Hux was a mole in this movie and that it would end by him being killed by Kylo.. so it could be true?
It’s more or less what I’ve always been saying about how Hux’s allegiance is to the First Order, and not to the Empire at all. And I love the idea that it would mean Hux’s was a genuine ideological change of views rather than just a case of being petty out of despair. I absolutely love it!
OTOH, I’m very glad he didn’t get killed by Kylo in the end. The poor bastard suffered enough at Kylo’s hands without having to be executed by him too.
