roach-works:
the most frustrating thing about the fallacy of the Great Man, the most awful part of this cultural concept that we have to let brilliant men consume as many women as they want during their careers is that the math doesn’t add up. the math is terrible. the math supposes that one man’s voice is more important than infinity women’s lives because women have zero voice.
how many books have we lost because their writers were erased, devoured, by the men they admired? that we admired, during all their decades of predation? how many doctors, pilots, engineers, poets, people, have we lost? it’s uncountable. it approaches infinity. women aren’t silent, they are silenced. they are lost as an active verb. they didn’t get lost. we have lost them. they were, are, pushed into the darkness so we can better admire the single, pathetic candle stubs of these predatory men.
yes, yes, the light is brilliant. the art is beautiful. the words sustain us. the tiger is a magnificent creature. the wasp is a living jewel. the shark has a form so refined he has not changed in a hundred million years. yes, yes, yes, these men are wonders of creation.
they’re still not worth feeding women to. the math doesn’t add up. it yields negative returns. a woman is a woman, is a person, is a positive integer, and if you exchange her for a book or a game or another minute by the fire then you are part of the problem. you’re part of what needs solving. you are wrong.
we have to stop.
