 Well, I visited Tumblr again after the purge and decided that there was an awful lot of scrolling for not much content, whereas over here my reading list is now long enough that I sometimes can't reply to everything in the same day. I'm going to keep my Tumblr for the sake of the people who I talk to through the Tumblr messenger, but otherwise I think I'm already in the habit of spending my fandom time over here instead. That was a very painless transition!

Meanwhile in the reblogs - some really interesting communities being started over here :)

• altilis  - reminds me of the existence of getyourwordsout , a community to encourage a steady writing habit.

I feel the same way!!! There are a few new things over there, I will miss the breadth of things I'd find, but I won't miss how the vast majority of it was just repetition. :(

I used to interact a lot more with people on Tumblr in my early days there, but I ended up being snapped at aggressively for it so many times that I stopped, and it's nice to be back in a place where I can more or less assume that people will assume the best of anyone unless they prove themselves to be a troll.

Yeah, I'm finding myself rediscovering my ability to interact. I've always been a super awkward person and so I know I've survived most of my life relatively un-bullied by just... blending in, whenever I'm mildly stressed, and so I generally erred on the side of not doing anything on Tumblr that I hadn't had a chance to observe someone else doing first, and so I learned that you didn't generally interact in the ways I was used to from LJ, and i had sort of forgotten that I'd learned about that until suddenly everyone was coming back over to Dreamwidth and I've just been leaving really long gushy comments everywhere.

I am worried that I've forgotten friending etiquette-- Tumblr was really profligate with that, you just followed anybody, including hatefollowing, that was normal, and so it was like, no big deal at all. (I also freely unfollowed, which apparently people did get fucked-up over, but it was difficult to pin that on anyone so I never really felt bad.)
So far, on DW, I've just been wildly subscribing to anyone I think is interesting, and granting access too, and then granting access to anyone who subscribes to me, and i should probably be more circumspect but I'm waiting until I've gotten annoyed at how many people are on here before I start being choosy. :D

*G* Of course now we're running headfirst into Christmas, during which my capacity to interact with anyone other than in real life gets used up, so this will be the first test of the more sociable online me. But yeah, I've been doing the same - just arriving on complete strangers' blogs and leaving enthusiastic comments like I used to before Tumblr. It hasn't gone badly so far. The worst that's happened so far is being ignored, which I mostly don't even notice.

The access thing tripped me up because you can't comment on someone's post unless you've got access. I had been giving nobody access, on the grounds that I could set up a private circle once I knew who ought to be in it, but now I'm going to have to give it to everyone I want to interact with. Which is not really very satisfactory.
