Disagree with the article. Me & my nerd girl friends will watch pretty much every comic book movie out there regardless of marketing strategies, but each and every one of us loved how for once, marketing acknowledged that yes, we very much appreciate all the beefcake on display. And there are absolutely women out there who usually don't watch comic book movies but were persuaded by a generous helping of Jason Momoa sans shirt.
*G* This is probably another place where I have to remember that I don't represent the average woman because (a) I'm not exactly a woman and (b) I'm asexual. (But also (c) I don't like men with muscles even aesthetically - give me a tall, lean type like Loki or Hux and keep their clothes on.)
I liked the article because it acknowledged me and my disinterest in beefcake for once, but I can see that if you do like it, it would be nice to be provided with it :)
Damn, now I really want to read that article but it seems to require logging in to tumblr? ;__;
I have completely missed the marketing for Aquaman but I Have Opinions about the movie itself and the way it tried to present Aquaman as a compromise between male and female gaze and then compensated by basically giving Amber Heard's boobs a bigger role than her.
I haven't actually seen the movie yet, so I can't really judge, but if they're trying to snag me by focusing on Jason Momoa's muscles they're missing the mark in at least three different ways.
