Also it occurs to me that it is now Saturday, and I have not yet received that invite code to Pillowfort.io I should have had, given that I paypalled them a fiver and they said I would receive it on Friday.

I think that’s happened to me twice now. Which means that Pillowfort just doesn’t want me there. I should take a hint and stop trying.
