1. What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?
Well, on an intellectual level I understand that different people like different things and a lot of it’s an id thing and all that… but personally right now I don’t get any ship at all with Kylo in it. That boy needs to work on his issues before he’s fit to be with anyone at all. Also Anidala for similar reasons.
On the other end of the scale, I don’t get how there are already people shipping Hux with Pryde. All we have of Pryde is a picture. I get that there are people who love age-gap fics with distinguished older men/beautiful younger men, but my ace ass is all “really? Really? But why?” All this daddy stuff makes me shudder.
2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?
Stormpilot. I’m definitely a Finnrey person with Stormpilot as a BroTP.
4. Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP?
I can’t take any kind of abusive Kylux, and it’s getting harder and harder to justify a Kylux that is any other way. Also Reylo, because Rey deserves better. (See above - if Hux deserves better than Kylo, then Rey definitely does!) Rey and Finn have such great, happy chemistry, and I don’t like the way that the focus on Rey and Kylo has ended up making the hero of the sequel trilogy into a secondary character . It’s not fair on Finn.
5. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?
Fandom kind of started ruining Kylux for me before canon got in on the act too. It all got very heteronormative with Hux as the girl. There was also quite a lot of non-con and dub-con, which is not my thing. Canon is really not helping to rein that in.
6. Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?
Yes, but in my previous fandom. Stargate Universe. The canon relationship between Colonel Young and Tamara Johannsen just came across as immensely skeevy on screen. Thanks to fandom, I was encouraged to write about how it came about. And thanks to writing about it, I ended up liking it a lot more. That was a great success all round.
17. Instead of XYZ happening, I would have made ABC happen
I would have given more screen time to Finn and less to the whole force-bond stuff.
22. Popular character you hate?
Kylo. I probably wouldn’t have hated him as much if I hadn’t felt that I was being expected to care about him, without being given any real reason to care. The narrative weight of “oh, but this guy is SUPER SPECIAL, this guy is awesome cool, and he has a dark and troubled past but he’s really sensitive and noble underneath it all. Look how special he is with his shiny hair and unnecessarily naked abs!” is enough to make me hate him. I hate when writers try to tell me how loveable their characters are instead of simply letting me make my own mind up.
It doesn’t help that he bullies my favourite character either.
