I’m assuming Hux was being extremely reserved, polite, and accommodating with Pryde to protect himself and his identity as The Spy™ but reading about Pryde considering his behaviour as ingratiating still gets me. It’s just another reminder that he’s spent at least thirty years of his life in a culture that not only rewards cutthroat, violent behaviour, but actively discourages anything even resembling kindness and consideration amongst colleagues.

Discounting TFA Hux, who feels like a different character, poor Hux’s fight or flight response seems to be fawn. Which is like… he’s just very eager to please, and nobody in his life seems to be willing to be pleased. It’s sad, and it makes me think that as a child he must have been quite sweet natured. Things could have been very different if anyone had ever been nice to him

And also how he planned for Pryde’s blaster bolt, was wearing armor under his clothes, and had a team staged for ‘body disposal’ that would take him to a prepared escape craft so he could leave the FO forever.

huxismyman:

Let’s not forget that General Hux has an intelligence level of 9.5/10, from the Topps cards and the Head-To-Head books. This means that he has an above-than-average IQ level, like, mentally gifted. This makes so much sense given that he’s a General at such a young age and also how he’s managed to escape the resistance and survive for so long, and also planned many assassinations including his own Father’s.

I was taught a different/additional method of repairing knit fabric while maintaining its stretch, essentially one that reconstructs the fabric in the same way it was originally put together, making it pretty hard to see if you have similar yarn. Not sure where it comes from, this video seems to be the same thing I was told to do. Probably the best way to decide between them is just based on which seems more work for the hole you have, and whether you care about it being visible.

Alcohol, bleach, etc kill some bacteria and viruses by destroying their physical structures. They are disinfectants, not “antibiotics” in the way that penicillin or bacitracin are antibiotics. Delicate viruses, like coronaviruses, are physically destroyed with relative ease by damaging the titular “corona”. Viruses like norovirus are not affected by hand sanitizer because their physical structure is hardier and more difficult to penetrate. They are not affected by antibiotics at all.

I guess one way to think of it is that bacteria can be murdered, and they can be destroyed—viruses can only be destroyed.

That’s nice, but no. I’m a non-binary person tired of all the infighting over who is “allowed” to see their experiences reflected in the lives of historical figures. Trans people have always existed, but it is nearly impossible to conclusively determine exactly how long-dead individuals would have chosen to define themselves by today’s standards, because most of them lived in a world quite different from our own, driven by motives that aren’t as obvious to us now, and may have had quiet personal feelings they kept to themselves that might surprise us today. I suspect that some of them felt much like I do—unable to identify their location precisely on a contemporary gender map, and not really interested in trying.

I think the vicious intracommunity tug-of-war over whether individuals were binary trans men, trans masculine non-binary people, or who women who were butch or GNC or simply preferred to live as men for practical or professional reasons is stupid. I would bet my life that in a game of “guess my gender”, we would guess incorrectly as often as we were right, or be confounded by the answers we got. I think it is probably better to think of historical LGBTQ people as further back on a phylogenic tree—common cultural ancestors, more or less, though not necessary an exact match to how we have branched off and how we think of ourselves today.

We should use the pronouns and language that the people used for themselves in their time, but this attitude of “you can’t look at this person as part of your own cultural forebearers because they were definitely A instead of B”—this sense of exclusive ownership over people who can’t speak for themselves in the context of modernity—helps no one. We cannot carve historical LGBTQ identities at the joints and perfectly ascribe modern taxonomy, which is itself imperfect.

officialkittendorf:

This reads like a cis person finding out that trans people have always existed throughout history, and would like us to stop reminding them of it.

glumshoe:

Frankly I don’t see the point in fussing over the precise gender identities of historical figures and what they would hypothetically describe themselves as were they alive today. They’re not fictional characters—they’re dead people whose opinions on a continuously evolving topic are largely unknowable, but are part of a shared history nonetheless.

For example, whether a historical figure lived secretly as a man because she was a woman in a society where that was her only option to actually do the things she wanted to do, or because he was just more comfortable that way and wanted to be recognized as a man… how can we know? How can we determine that it was not both? How can we look back through history to a world so different from ours and come to conclusions about things that are often complicated and indistinct in our own time?

I just don’t see what is accomplished by trying to sort and separate trans history from GNC history based on factors we can’t truly be certain of. In an earlier generation, I think I may have lived and presented quite differently based on the choices available to me and the ease with which I may have pursued them. The world changes so much in so many ways and I can barely make sense of myself in my own time—it seems more practical to simply say, “Ah. Relatable. I can see much of myself in the record of your life.” and leave it at that. Our history is cultural, not ancestral, and in a hundred years we may be the source of just as much confusion and consternation even if we believe ourselves clear today.

downtroddendeity:

coldalbion:

(Background: I have a lifelong disability and am a wheelchair user. After surgery I’ve basically been stuck living and sleeping in one room for three years. These are things I have learnt which may help, though with the caveat that everyone is different, and baseline mental health varies.)

1. YOUR MENTAL HEALTH WILL PROBABLY SUFFER - and although humans are social creatures, even the most introverted will chafe against boundaries enforced upon them by circumstance. The degree to which it suffers will be related to your mental health baseline and physical health. Understand that this IS NOT YOUR FAULT. Stimuli and enrichment methods are required. It’s why animals need such things in zoos and conservation parks. This leads us on to my next point.

2. COMPREHEND WHICH ACTIVITIES ARE ACTIVE AND PASSIVE FOR YOU Spending your confinement solely doing passive things (watching TV, Netflix, browsing the internet, scrolling through the internet) will take a load off your brain and make the time pass quicker. But if that’s all you do, the sense of disconnection increases over time. Activities which require you to *do* something, even if it’s just engaging your motor skills via video games, or lifting some cans of beans, or actively reading - these deliberate acts foster a tiny sense of achievement which gives your brain a dose of helpful chemicals. If you want to consider your activities, look up the work of Marshall McLuhan as regards “hot media” and “cold media” (See https://mediawiki.middlebury.edu/MIDD…/Hot_versus_cool_media for basic premise.) Balancing out your media intake with hot and cold activities keeps your brain active and pumping tasty neurotransmitters.

3. LIMIT YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA USAGE TO SOCIAL PURPOSES. Infinite scrolling as found on many social media platforms is a hot medium, as per McLuhan. The reason Likes exist is to give that little spike of interactivity. It’s not a conspiracy to say many platforms are designed to keep you on them so they can show you more ads. (See also https://www.theguardian.com/…/has-dopamine-got-us-hooked-on… which explains the brain chemistry angle) However, DM’s and other messaging faculties are supremely useful. Use them to interact with your friends, indulge your fandom theories. Person to person interaction requires and enhances deep-seated neurological and biophysical reflexes. Text your mates. Skype/Facetime or otherwise call them. Use the technology of the 21st century for genuine social ends, deliberately. Catch up with their lives one to one or in groupchats.

4. PICK TIMES TO CHECK THE NEWS AND STICK TO THEM. This relates to point 3 - unfortunately we live in a 24hr news cycle, with constant liveblogging of important issues. This means that we’re constantly streaming anxiety inducing situations into our brains JUST IN CASE. That’s not helpful, particularly when you can’t actually DO anything about those events - the urge to DO something is why people are panic-buying. It’s a very basic primordial need to grab resources for defence. By picking times of the day to check news, you are again, making a DELIBERATE CHOICE, enacting some small level of agency, while at the same time limiting anxiety-inducing stimuli. If the news gets too much, then don’t check it as much - or at all - and do something else.

5. IF YOU DO THINGS WITH FRIENDS, SEE IF YOU CAN DO THEM ONLINE. Run that game of DnD/Other TTRPG you’ve been meaning to. Hold your book club online. Have a few drinks online over voice-chat if you are missing the pub. Hold watch parties for your favourite shows. The key, as ever, is to be engaged rather than passive. It’s harder if you’re ill, yes, but it can be done.

6. USE YOUR IMAGINATION TO CREATE THINGS. Write that fanfic. Start that novel. Design that game. Doodle. Paint. Humans have been creating since the day we became human. Consider things from the perspective of a pre-modern person. Make handprints on your own personal cave wall - contact each other and tell spooky stories. Build a complex fantasy world. Write an account of your confinement for some person to find pieces of years after you’re gone from the world. Think about a problem, and learn how to solve it via taking online classes (See http://www.openculture.com/freeonlinecourses) Write an essay on your chosen passion or hyperfixation - nobody needs to read it but you. Treat yourself to intellectual stimulation, if that’s your thing.

7. IF YOU HAVE A SPIRITUAL. RITUAL, OR MEDITATIVE PRACTICE DO IT. It doesn’t matter if it’s not perfect, or limited in scope. This also includes atheists and those who despise woo - you have personal rituals, things you do that have Meaning to you as a person. Maybe it;s alphabetizing your music collection, or spring cleaning or cooking your favourite meal like grandma used to make. Humans have patterns they perform. When you perform them DELIBERATIVELY (or dare I say MINDFULLY) you become aware that these are the scaffolds that structure human life.

8. STRUCTURE YOUR TIME. Following on from 7, we often don’t realise the structure of our lives until it is disrupted. When that’s removed, our minds can go into freefall. If you’re isolated/in lockdown, oftentimes you won’t be able to access those structures. Rather than wait for them to to become accessible again and risk a period of feeling lost and directionless, which can enhance depression and anxiety, it’s best to develop a new structure based on the resources you have. It can be as loose or as strict as you like, but sticking to it allows us to develop a rhythm which makes time pass in recognisable fashion and gives us a sense of being-in-the-world as some sort of engaged process.

9. KEEP YOUR SLEEP PATTERN REGULAR AND LONG ENOUGH. The key here is REGULAR. Following on from 8, it’s important to keep your body well rested, as this aids your immune system and cuts down on the possibility of your body having to deal with stress . If you’re ill it’s harder to keep this regular, because sometimes your body just needs sleep to regenerate NOW. Equally in isolation, particularly if you’re feeling mentally low, it can be tempting to sleep forever, because y’know, you’re feeling low and what’s the point. (Of course the point is why we have 8 in particular, along with all the rest.)

OBVIOUSLY EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT. Particularly for those with disabilities or chronic illnesses, we may be even more limited in our activities while isolated than able bodied folks. That said, the key is to remember that certainly during this pandemic, and otherwise YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE FEELING THIS WAY. Rubbish as it may be, many are in the same boat. If it pleases you to, seek them out - see what commonalities you have, what hopes and dreams and fascinations you may share. FIND THE OTHERS - it’s what humans have always done.

Be well.

I hope OP doesn’t mind me adding to this, but-

I have depression that often stops me from leaving the house. While they’re probably not universal, a few specifics that nevertheless make a big difference for me:

Put on real clothes every day, shower as much as you would if you were going out, and do any other routine self-care of a similar nature. Sitting around in your pajamas for days at a time contributes to the general feeling of depression and uselessness.

Have multiple spots to exist in; even if you’re just watching Netflix from a different spot in your bedroom, that’s better than spending all your time in your bed.

If you’re spending more time in a space than usual, you might want to devote a bit of energy to keeping it a little cleaner/neater than you normally would. I don’t usually bother making my bed nowadays, but when I was living out of a single room I did because it made the room look so much less like a Depression Cave.

If you tend to lose track of time ADHD-style, you might want to have something to mark time in your downtime so it doesn’t just turn into a blur- for instance, I’ve got an app on my phone that dings every half-hour basically just to remind me that time is passing. It can also help you remember to move once in a while.

On that note, move once in a while. Doesn’t even have to be Exercise™, just try not to spend too many hours at a stretch sitting in the same position.

If you can do so without turning into a germ vector, try to get some fresh air every once in a while. If you can’t, at least try to spend a significant portion of your day in a spot that gets some sun. Even if you don’t have actual SAD, lack of sunlight can start getting to you.

If you keep wanting to go back to social media all the time even though it’s just stressing you out: Leechblock. It’s an extension designed to stop yourself from absentmindedly wandering off into the internet hinterlands when you’re working, but is equally effective at stopping compulsive refreshing. Works on both Firefox and Chrome, and it has a lot of options for how and when to have it block things.

…Looking at this list, a lot of them seem really obvious, but I have many times experienced the frustrating feeling of realizing that some condescending advice that the internet would attribute to a neurotypical woman named Karen actually did noticeably improve things, so hey, have some semi-obvious advice.

hey guys, if you’re feeling trapped and stuffed in your home because of social distancing here’s something that always makes me feel a little bit better.

get an orange if you have one. peel it, and set the peels to the side. get a small pot or saucepan and fill it with some water. put the orange peels in the water and if you have some ground cinnamon or cinnamon sticks, drop a couple in there too. let it come to a simmer for about 40 mins and then take it off or continue to let it go for as long as you want. This will make your home smell so nice and fresh, and it also makes it feel like you accomplished something, which is great, no matter how small.

you can change the recipe up if you want, apples instead of oranges, vanilla instead of cinnamon if you like one over the other, do whatever you like! but it really is a great little trick to make your home feel less trapped.

DIY Emergency Lights from Solar Yard Lights - Backdoor Survival:

sunshineandhope:

Using inexpensive solar yard lights for emergency lighting inside your home is an easy deal.  Charge them up in the sun, bring them inside, and you have light. The problem, however, is that once the activation tab is pulled on the lights, they have to be put in sunlight each day to ensure that the battery is charged up and ready to go during an emergency. This is not a practical solution.

To get around this, some people do not pull the activation tab until the light is actually needed in an emergency. This essentially is a one time use. Again, not a practical solution.  We are going to solve this conundrum by installing a micro switch that can turn solar lights on or off whenever we want.

An incomplete list:

War crimes (I’m not sure what they are, but they’re a big deal and a lot of people accuse us of them. I’ll be more detailed below.)

Kidnapping

Taking children under false pretenses (ie, promising they’ll grow up to be something other than cannon fodder)

Turning children into cannon fodder

The widespread practice of using sub-adults (ie, children) to staff war machines

Blowing up the Hosnian system (I think this is a war crime. Is this a war crime?)

Having no handrails

Failing to be workplace safe

Reconditioning

Dehumanizing members

Preventing members from living happy, fulfilled lives

Crushing hope

Making us kill people we didn’t want to kill

Killing us

Subjecting us to the tyranny of the dark side of the Force

Kylo Ren

Rey

Palpatine

Luke Skywalker

Any other Force ghosts or Force apparitions, especially of dead people, whose haunting of the hallways has become routine

Making us live our entire lives on this lifeless husk of a haunted ship, while we fly around the galaxy killing people and extorting taxes or whatever it is we do to stay financially solvent (Are we pirates? I think we’re pirates.)

A culture of assassination, backstabbing, and betrayal, especially in the top levels of the organization

The Knights of Ren’s total disregard for hygiene, especially their boots

The current state of calcinator repair

Our leadership using the Force to use the bodies of officers to swab the deck or scrub the ceiling

The lack of funerals or acknowledgement of the dead

The suspension of the holiday sock-exchange program among stormtroopers

The suspension of team sports activities after that unfortunate incident in the hangar bay where backers of one team hijacked AT-ATs to mobilize against backers of another team who had walkers, and how this spread into the hallways once speeder bikes were involved.

Lack of comprehensive health care (and no, ‘kill them if they take more than 2 sick days per year’ is not an acceptable comprehensive health care policy)

Stormtrooper armor being bid out to the lowest contractor, resulting in shoddy plastoid that can’t stop the weakest blaster, and this being the only armor we’re allowed to wear

Inaccurate history and educational programs

Lack of free press

Phasma’s harp recitals while her troopers suffer.

Disregard for public education

I believe this list can be greatly condensed into:

1. Kylo Ren

2. The Imperial Academy System

3. The Knights of Ren

4. Lack of funding into solar research - if we had had adequate funds, the Hosnian incident would have ended in free solar power for the Hosnian System as was the original intention, not in… well, the nonexistence of the Hosnian System.

5. [profile] pryde_before_the_fall ’s helicopter parenting - actually, this may be more of a personal grievance. You may delete this from the list if you’d like.

Contrary to [profile] spaceboy_dameron‘s belief, I think [profile] chromium_siren‘s musical performances are one of the positives about the First Order.

People Are Helping Each Other Fight Coronavirus:

selfenjoyment:

Teen Vogue out here quoting Kropotkin:

What is mutual aid?

Mutual aid is basically a fancy term for helping each other. For an intellectual perspective on it, we turn to the anarcho-communist writer and thinker Peter Kropotkin, who wrote in his 1902 text, Mutual Aid: A Factor of Evolution, that the concept is foundational to our systems of survival.

“It is not love and not even sympathy upon which society is based in mankind,” Kropotkin wrote. “It is the conscience — be it only at the stage of an instinct — of human solidarity.” Kropotkin went on to argue that society is based on “the close dependency of every one’s happiness upon the happiness of all” and “the sense of justice, or equity, which brings the individual to consider the rights of every other individual as equal to his own.”

The organizers we talked to seemed to agree that this moment of crisis is also a time when communities can come together and be stronger than ever.

“In times like these … it’s important to transform our relationships and practice community care via mutual aid,” Nehanda said. “Disabled people are often not thought about or valued, especially in times like a global pandemic, when we are the most vulnerable.”

Petty told Teen Vogue, “We have the ability to organize ourselves and build the infrastructure to get what we all need when the state and formal institutions fail to do so.”

Ratto pointed out that “secondary impacts,” like people being out of work, under quarantine, socially distant, and other social and economic disruptions, will be as much a part of the crisis as the health impacts.

“We can all start small,“ Ratto said, “with the people who live on the floor of our apartment, or the people who live next door and across the street from us on our streets, and check in and exchange contact information.”

“There’s nothing new in America about people not being able to work, being laid off or not having a job, or not having access to food, or not having access to reliable transportation, or facing any of those problems,” Ratto continued. “It’s important to keep the mindset moving forward, [and] that the lessons we learn from this about how communities can take care of each other and how neighbors can come together [are] a potential solution to some of the hardships of coronavirus, but also a potential solution to some of the hardships that will continue to exist.”

Like seriously, I refuse to believe that Han and Leia split up over a kid going to the Dark Side or Luke just giving up and going into exile over one student, even his nephew going to the Dark Side. The characterization in The Force Awakens just makes me mad cause I’ve read dozens of books and have seen the character development of the original trilogy trio over the course of near 40 years after Return of the Jedi and it just makes me mad. Cause Han and Leia stood strong in their marriage despite a hostile extra Galactic invading species killing both Chewbacca and their 14 year old son Anakin, their other son Jacen becoming a Sith, him killing Luke’s wife Mara, and having to be killed by his twin, their daughter Jaina. And they both still kept up their roles as a General and Chief of State/Ambassador all the while.

And Luke, bless this dude, not only fully rebuilt the Jedi Order, but in his first class of Jedi, when Kyp Durron went to the Dark Side he went out and brought him back and redeemed him. He had to deal with internal schisms in the Order about the nature of the force and the role of the Jedi and kept the peace and the order united. He lead the Jedi through a war with the Yuuzahn Vong that saw trillions die and helped end the war on diplomatic terms just like his mother Padme would have done. He dealt with the Galactic suspicion of the Jedi and even after he was personally blamed for his nephew becoming a Sith and being exiled by the Galactic Alliance he still held to his role as leader of the Jedi and his role as a father to Ben Skywalker and continued to fight for peace and against the dark side. And even after his death his Force Ghost was still working to save the Galaxy and help his descendants stay on the right paths.

Don’t tell me this out of character nonsense we saw in TFA is canon cause it’s not.

He’s never tasted human flesh and he’s happy to tell you that.

Will: I mean, I believe you, but you must understand that it’s uncomfortable that you keep specifically denying it.

Hannibal, cooking a wholesome meal with actual chicken and, he assured everyone, zero human: my name rhymes with cannibal, Will. I do not judge people for their concerns.

I was recently rewatching some Hannibal clips and may I just say that this show is Fucking Hilarious And An Peerless Work Of Art And Comedy if Hannibal is in fact just a humble non-murderous supportive psychiatrist doing his best

You Know Just Your Basic Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

You Know, Just Normal Flirting. Please dear god imagine this is just Hannibal the Not Cannibal doing his very best to connect earnestly. “I am sorry,” he apologizes later to Will. “I have been told I am very ominous.”

Will, who can hear the background music: Fewer metaphors, maybe. Maybe you only get one metaphor per conversation.

Hannibal: I am stricken as St. Bartholomew, flayed for his faith.

Will: Don’t you fucking sneak a simile in here

Okay so reading the excerpts circulating so far we know Pryde is not even intimidated by Kylo and I’m saying let’s take it a notch up

Like, Kylo trying to be this intimidating presence and then one day to his horror realizing it’s all been 100% ineffective on Pryde bc the more cruel he gets the more Pryde will have the hots for him is absolutely hilarious and I will go down with it. No matter how many of the finest darkside tricks Snoke taught him he pulls out, Pryde will just be like *sharp intake of breath* and it’s driving Kylo up the wall and he can’t get rid of him either so he just has to tolerate living in Pryde’s mind as this vicious little boytoy he fantasizes about at night and for the first time in his life he curses his ability to read minds sfsdkdssdksd sorrynotsorry

(2/2) So, I was standing at the stage with the ship, and this guy on the stage was playing a First Order officer and he said to me, “For the Order.” And I, being the gay-for-Phasma dumbass that I am, screamed “HECK YEAH BRO!!!!!” and waved my umbrella in the air WAY too excitedly. The officer kind of just stared for a second and then said, “The correct response would be ‘For the Order,’ but I admire your enthusiasm.” TL;DR: I’m a First Order bootlicker

That’s so cool that he responded!! I’ve seen a lot of “character integrity” bullshit in Disney parks that prevents fun interactions like that. Glad you could visit before travel bans!

Hey, uh, this is gonna sound weird, but has anyone noticed that Randy the intern appears to be…glowing slightly?

Not glowing in a metaphorical “pleased with himself for destroying yet another printer in the teachers’ lounge” sort of way…but more like a literal “Hux caught him sneaking around the hallways in the dark of night and he didn’t seem to need a flashlight” sort of way?

I don’t really hang out with him, so I’ve never caught it before, but I’m sure it’s there. I am…concerned.

“When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.”

It’s actually… insulting. Like they are basically slapping us with “this is happening, we don’t have an explanation, just watch the damn movie and get us paid” without even the decency of trying to hide it. That line didn’t have to be in there. It revealed nothing, it provided no character development… it was literally just there to admit that the film really is as bad as you think.

I’m not “holding” the mole.

The mole bit the stick as I was saving it from a dog. When they bite down, they do not readily let go, and you are able to transport them to safety.

#SaveTheTrees

I feel like an important message is trying to be communicated to me but I have no idea what it is

Our forests are being cut down 3x faster than they can grow! One acre of hemp produces as much cellulose fiber pulp as 4.1 acres of trees!!! This is super useful for so many things, especially paper production! In addition, hemp takes in carbon dioxide 4x as fast as trees do, which makes it especially valuable in the act of reducing CO2 emissions/greenhouse gases! 🌲🌲🌲 source

#the scope of the anti-hemp conspiracy in the united states is terrifying once you start doing research tbh#like it was initially smeared/banned bc lumber lobbyists pushed for it to be…#and a major smear tactic was to associate it with black people#who now a hundred years later are the ones primarily being imprisoned for it#and the plant itself has now been inextricably linked to the drug so people won’t even allow for it to be grown for commercial purposes#like paper making (via literallyfuckeveryone)

Important reminder that industrial hemp can’t be used as a recreational drug, so if anyone tries to pull that card you can just stop them then and there. There are no real arguments against using industrial hemp, even if you’re rigidly against the legalization of any recreational drugs.

Join our Jerusalem Delivered readalong club (well, ‘s in Polish, but we can do posts in English, too). ;) It’s SW or MCU of 16th century Europe and it has all the tropes, no deconstruction, no antis in sight, so no worries, ALL CLICHES and TROPES, three foe-yay romances if I count right, two women-warriors, one powerful sorceresses, magic, action, romance, crusades aka war in the background - SW ST and most of our current popculture seem not progressive, but pretty stale compared to it. To not say regressive, because Italy/Europe at the beginning of the 16th century were hardly a centre of the world, more like backwater place, but with ambitions and on the rise. :D power dynamics looked very different than Disney’s…

Whatever one wants from tropey popculture, Tasso has one covered. :D

Aka Fili decided to throw away modern popculture. No more popculture (but stole The Mandalorian. but it’s good, so it’s alright), Disney SW broke me. Coronavirus and the streaming of culture and art it allowed is perfect for it. I’ve just watched a great, slashy ;) ballet adaptation of Anna Karenina, I’m going to watch some theatre and them some opera, read 16h century SW, perhaps watch actual high art SW aka OT, and have fun. No more contemporary popculture, especially in English. Dixit. (perhaps some video games will sneak through). XD ;)

Ha! I’m glad you’ve found a new fandom that you can love :) I seem to have fallen out of fiction altogether and my new ‘fandom’ is gardening/permaculture. So I’m spending all my time in the garden or watching videos about when to prick out my peas or whatever. I have read The Goblin Emperor three times, which I very much enjoyed. But even that I don’t feel fannish about. My mental internal running monologue of stories has totally shut off. It’s very peculiar. Hopefully the drive to write/read fiction will come back at some point, but it can wait a few years while I turn my garden into a food forest ;)

I swear, the more the canon tries to make fans hate him the more relatable character he is and disney higher ups just can’t get their head around the fact that present fans are breaking away from mob mentality. We don’t kick characters bleeding on the ground, we pick them up. We don’t laugh at characters with weaknesses, we want to see them succeed in their unique way. Old naration tricks and evil men coding makes us more angry than ever before. Hux needs a cup of coffee, a blanket, and a conversation partner, not to be a laughing stock for yet another failure he has no control over. I have only seen official tros novelization in posts and pics but i hate it from my whole heart and damn, disney should just stop already!

boris johnson’s speech about the UK coronavirus outbreak was literally the ‘some of you will die but that is a risk i am prepared to take’ speech from shrek verbatim

“we’ve done what we can to contain this disease”

no school closures, no ban on public gatherings, no lockdown in heavily affected areas, no testing for those showing mild cold symptoms just advised to stay at home for 7 days, no mandatory self-isolation for those living with confirmed cases (a huge problem in london where EVERYONE flatshares), no limitations to public transport, no museum closures, no cinema closures. but it’s ok, all public restrooms have a4 posters reminding people to wash their hands, job done for this tory government.

That’s because all Tories are fucking bastards.

9 States Reopen ACA Insurance Enrollment To Broaden Health Coverage:

teratomarty:

otherhazards:

“An expanding number of state health exchanges are reopening enrollment this month to help uninsured residents gain coverage during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

“-The states that have recently reopened exchanges — Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, and Washington — have more flexibility than most states to create a special enrollment period because they run their own health exchanges.

Another such state, California, announced Friday that its exchange, which had been open for reasons unrelated to the outbreak, will continue to allow residents to enroll through June because of the upheaval caused by the coronavirus. The District of Columbia is also allowing residents to sign up for coverage for reasons unrelated to the outbreak-”

Please reblog this! If you need help navigating the legalese, or just want someone to hang out & keep you calm as you do this, message me.
